Glasgow pundit drops ‘big’ Malik Tillman claim after Rangers latest – ‘fans will be in an uproar’

Frank McAvennie has claimed Rangers youngster Malik Tillman didn’t deserve to receive the young player of the year award.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said there were “a lot” of young players in Scotland more deserving of the award than Tillman.

The 20-year-old was awarded the PFA Scotland Men’s Young Player of the Year Award last weekend (14 May), as voted for by his fellow players.

The USA international has spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Ibrox but returned to Bayern Munich earlier this month after picking up an injury that curtailed his Scottish Premiership season.

The Gers have the option to buy the midfielder for around £5million but speaking after receiving the award, Tillman said the chances of him joining permanently are “50/50”.

When asked if Tillman was a deserving winner of the award, McAvennie told Football Insider:I think there are a lot of young players in Scotland that deserved it more than him.

He is talking about coming back to Rangers but they have not got £5m to spend on him. The fans would be in an uproar because the biggest thing for them was that he never turned up for the big games.

Rangers

He played well against the so-called lesser teams but did not turn up in any of the big games. It was a shock to me. He is a good player but you have got to do it all the time at Rangers.

Whatever club you play for you have got to give them everything and he does not seem to be doing that.
