Glowing references of Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is attracting Ross Barkley to the club, according to the report.
The London Evening Standard have reported on their website that the 23-year-old is now keen to make the move to north London after initially being reluctant.
The change in heart of the attacking midfielder is said to have come from what England international teammates and Spurs stars Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Danny Rose and Eric Dier have told him about the Argentine.
However, despite the player’s wants to move to Tottenham, Everton’s valuation could still become an obstacle and it is reported that Spurs will not pay the £50million asking price that the Toffees have issued.
But, it is also said that all sides are quietly optimistic that an agreement can be reached for the 22-time England international.
Barkley has entered the final year of his contract at Everton and with no development on a new deal being offered at the club a move to Tottenham could certainly be on the cards.
Football Insider verdict:
Pochettino is not yet known in the Premier League as the likes of Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger, Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte are and his reputation is considerably lower than each of the five. However, the Argentine also showed in the last campaign that he has more than what it takes in order to compete with them at the top of England’s top-flight. Pochettino’s name and standing is only going to increase now and although he can’t yet attract top players through that alone the message of his players can certainly help Spurs gain an advantage in any player purchases. Barkley is a talented player himself and Pochettino could help him rediscover his form and also help him reach the top of his game as he has done to so many Tottenham players.
In other Tottenham transfer news, Sky have detailed that the reported wage demands of Barkley are untrue.
