Lethal finisher makes emphatic transfer decision on Leeds interest ahead of January – report

Orlando City striker Cyle Larin has emphatically decided to snub interest from Leeds United in order to move to Borussia Monchengladbach in the January transfer window, according to a report.

The Sun claims that Larin, 22, is set to reject the chance to move to England and Turkey in favour of the Bundesliga side.

It is understood that Leeds have had the Canada international on their radar in the hopes that he could help fire the Yorkshire club up the Championship standings in the second half of the season.

Besiktas were also said to be keeping tabs on Larin as they hoped to sign him up as a replacement to Everton-bound Cenk Tosun.

However the report says that Monchengladbach have moved into pole position in the race to sign the MLS goal machine, who has a phenomenal record in front of goal in the USA.

In a total of 87 MLS appearances while with Orlando City, Larin has scored 43 goals, hitting double-figures in each of the last three seasons.

This term, the lethal finisher netted 12 times in 28 outings for the Florida outfit.

Football Insider verdict

The MLS is not usually a place where top young talent comes from, it is usually the experienced guys who head there from Europe at the twilight of their careers. However Leeds have their scouts based across the globe so it would not be a surprise to see the Yorkshire club pick up talents from some left-field locations in January. Yosuke Ideguchi’s move from Japan is a good example of this and the interest in Larin is another. The Canada international has been in great form for Orlando and at the age of 22, he still has a lot to learn in order to make a success of himself in Europe. It is a blow for Leeds to miss out on him, but you would think Victor Orta and his network of scouts have plenty of other targets.
