‘Arguably the best’ – Tierney compares Celtic CL opponents to Euro giants

By James Black

Celtic’s Kieran Tierney has said Paris Saint-Germain are “up there with the best” after demolishing his Celtic side in the Champions League.

The Celtic defender faced Barcelona at the same stage of last season’s Champions League, and says not much separates the Spanish giants and the big-spending French side.

PSG thumped Celtic 5-0 in their first group game – Celtic lost 7-0 to Barca 12 months ago – and Tierney can’t decide which side is better.

“I think it’s hard to say if PSG were better than Barca, but they’re both up there as being the best,” said Tierney, as quoted by the Sunday Post.

“Neymar is now teamed up with Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe and, as with his combination with Messi and Suarez, you’d have to say together they make up probably the best front-three in the world.

“Take Mbappe. He is so quick, you think you know what he’s going to do, but you just can’t get to him.

“I suppose that’s why they are ready to pay so much money – £166 million – for someone so young.

“Overall, too, Paris are a world-class side, no doubt about it. They are arguably the best, and definitely the most expensive, side out there.”

PSG spent £202million on signing Neymar from Barcelona over the summer and have committed to a £166million deal for Mbabbe.

The Parkhead side’s biggest signing of the summer was Olivier Ntcham for £4.5million.

Tierney has a growing reputation in the Champions League with fans across Europe taking notice of the full-back’s performances in the hoops against much better teams.

Kierney missed the 4-0 win over Ross County on Saturday after being rested and should return to the Celtic starting XI for the League Cup quarter final with Dundee on Wednesday night.
