Graham Potter backed to U-turn on Southampton move after source’s reveal – pundit

Frank McAvennie has suggested Graham Potter could take charge of Leicester City this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said that there may be something “other than football” that has kept him away from returning to management this season.

The 47-year-old was sacked by Chelsea earlier this month and has been a target for Leicester ahead of the summer.

The Foxes have already appointed Dean Smith as caretaker manager until the end of the season.

On 8 April, Football Insider revealed that Potter has set his sights on becoming the next Southampton manager if they avoid relegation.

The former Chelsea and Brighton boss was identified by Leicester as their first-choice candidate to replace Brendan Rodgers but Potter informed the Midlands club that he wants to wait until the summer before deciding on a new club.

But it now seems Potter could snub Leicester in favour of the Saints, if they stay in the Premier League next season.

Both Leicester and Southampton are at risk of relegation this season and sit 19th and 20th in the Premier League respectively.

McAvennie insisted Potter would be a good fit at Leicester.

I think he is a really good coach, his tactics are spot on,” he told Football Insider.

Potter need players that are hungry and I think he would do that with Leicester.

But he wants to take a break so he might take that over in the summer. If it was me I would go right back in.

I think there is something more than just football keeping him away from the game at the moment. Life is all about money in football now.
