‘Gutted’ – Exclusive: Hutton recoils at prospect of PL 25-yr-old signing for Newcastle
Alan Hutton has claimed fans would be “disappointed” in John McGinn were he to quit Aston Villa to join Newcastle United.
The former Villa Park full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted no-one would begrudge the 25-year-old if left the club this summer, so long as it was to a “big team”.
According to the Daily Star, the Aston Villa midfielder is £30million target for Steve Bruce in the upcoming transfer window with Newcastle likely to invest heavily under new ownership.
McGinn has impressed in his debut Premier League season despite being sidelined since December 21 with a fractured ankle.
Hutton believes a move to the likes of Manchester United would be accepted by Villans but did not expect the same reaction were the midfielder to move to St. James Park.
“I think he has given his all,” he told Football Insider.
“Every fan would know that. He is a fans’ favourite. Every time he goes onto the pitch he gives 110 per cent – always.
“They would be gutted if he was to leave but they would not hold it against him if he went to a big team. They would be more disappointed if he went to Newcastle. Newcastle and Villa are in the same bracket so they would not see that as a step up but if we are talking Man U, I do not think you can hold it against him.
“He gives everything for the shirt.”
It promises to be a big summer at Villa Park with three clubs currently chasing the signature of Villa captain Jack Grealish, Football Insider has learned.
Dean Smith will know any hope of holding onto his prized assets will largely rest on the Claret and Blues avoiding relegation this campaign.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that club stand to lose £37million in a potentially devastating blow.
