Harry Amass ‘close’ to joining Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship rivals as Man United return ruled out

Man United youngster Harry Amass is set to move on loan to Championship side Norwich City for the remainder of the season rather than back to Sheffield Wednesday.

Amass won United’s Young Player of the Year for 2024-25, after he made seven first-team appearances across all competitions at just 17-years-old.

Man United loaned Amass to Wednesday on deadline day last summer to help them out for the season, given their financial constraints and lack of incomings, and he impressed at Hillsborough in the first half of the campaign.

The young left-back featured 21 times for the Owls, scoring and assisting one goal each, before United recalled him earlier in the January window.

Football Insider recently revealed that United were looking to loan Amass out again for the second half of the season, and it now looks as if he will be joining the Canaries rather than returning to South Yorkshire.

Amass ‘close’ to Norwich move as struggling Wednesday snubbed

Wednesday have wanted Amass back among their ranks since he was recalled, with other second tier sides like Stoke City and Watford also registering their interest in his services.

A new X post from BBC Sheffield’s Andy Giddings has now revealed that the 18-year-old is “close” to joining Norwich on loan, and he is “definitely” not set to return to Hillsborough.

Norwich have been embroiled in a relegation battle for the majority of the season so far, but currently sit two points and two places above the drop zone after three wins in their last four league games.

Norwich also chasing Vinnie Leonard deal amid relegation worries

Philippe Clement has transformed Norwich’s performances since his November appointment, with a 5-0 away win over fellow strugglers West Brom on Tuesday to push them out of the bottom three.

They look set to lose key man Josh Sargent this month as he demands a move away, with one signing made so far in January after winger Ali Ahmed joined from Vancouver Whitecaps.

Football Insider recently revealed that Norwich are in the race to sign Dundalk’s Vinnie Leonard, with Brighton, Crystal Palace and Celtic also tracking his progress in Ireland.

The centre-back became Dundalk’s youngest debutant and goalscorer last year at just 16-years-old, and he could well arrive at Carrow Road soon alongside fellow youngster Amass.
