Harry Kane warned against transfer ‘mistake’ amid Tottenham claim – pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted Tottenham can “do something special” if they keep Antonio Conte and Harry Kane at the club beyond this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 28-year-old would be making a “mistake” if he abandoned his relationship with the Italian and strike partner Heung-min Son.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard (16 May) in a major hint about where his future lies, Kane revealed he is “looking forward” to working with Conte “next season”.

The England captain insisted it would be “great for the club” if the former Chelsea boss remains at Tottenham.

Kane is out of contract in June 2024 and has refused to be drawn on his future after a move to Man City collapsed last summer (2021).

Conte’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season.

Whelan suggested the Italian could be key to Kane committing his future to his boyhood club.

“If Conte stays at Tottenham past this summer, Kane will be desperate to be a part of that,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“They’re going to be spending big, and they could do something special. We’ve seen the acquisitions already, they’ve been top-class – Kulusevski, and Bentancur.

“He’s thriving right now. He’s built up this partnership with Son over time, and it would take years to find that anywhere else. Their understanding is on another level.

“It’d be a mistake to throw that special relationship away. He’s also got the chance to play under an elite coach and a serial winner in Conte.”

Kane has notched 26 goals and nine goals in 49 games this term.

Fourth-place Spurs are in pole position to secure a return to the Champions League next season.
