He’s set himself up for a fall – Exclusive: Cocky Leeds star torn apart by ex-White
Alex Bruce has warned Leeds United Adam Forshaw he is setting himself for some serious stick after his bold claims about the club’s promotion hopes.
The former Leeds and Northern Ireland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes it would have been best for the 28-year-old to keep quiet until Marcelo Bielsa’s men were over the line.
Forshaw, speaking on the Leeds That podcast, admits he thinks that promotion is “going to be a formality” and that the Whites will “romp” their way back to the Premier League when the season resumes.
Bruce admits that he thinks Leeds will be promoted this season but suggests that Forshaw made a mistake with his comments with nine games left to play.
Bruce told Football Insider: “You have to admire his confidence – he’s obviously got a lot of confidence in himself and his teammates.
“I think they’ve got enough and I’m sure they’ll see the job out. However, we’ve seen a few over the years, there’s always a few twists and turns in the last quarter of the season.
“I hope for his sake they do see the job out because he’ll be setting himself up for a bit of stick if they don’t. I think you’re always better off keeping your head down, getting on with the job done and doing the talking when the job’s done.”
Leeds currently sit one point clear at the top of the Championship table and seven points ahead of third-placed Fulham.
The Whites are set to resume their season with a visit to Cardiff City on June 21 and will face off against the Cottagers a week later.
In other Leeds United news, Bruce has cast doubt over a deal already agreed at Elland Road.
