‘He’s still a top player’ – Exclusive: Paul Robinson reacts to big Naby Keita development
Paul Robinson has claimed Naby Keita will be a major part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans at Liverpool over the next few seasons.
The former Spurs and Leeds United keeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, is confident the midfielder, 25, will stay after Bild reported RB Leipzig were pursuing a deal to re-sign him.
As revealed by Football Insider, Jurgen Klopp has no intention of selling the Guinean despite making a contract extension for Georginio Wijnaldum his top priority this summer.
Robinson insisted the central midfielder has not been helped by a series of niggling injuries since arriving at Anfield.
“Jurgen Klopp rotates his midfield a lot and that is what the top teams do,” he told Football Insider.
“Liverpool are building a top squad and I think Keita is in his plans.
“I do not think Keita is somebody that will be looking to leave or in Klopp’s plans to move on.
“He is a big part of the future. When he has come in he has done OK, slightly inconsistent but he is still a top player. I think Jurgen Klopp will look to utilise him a lot more in the coming years.
“He has had a couple of unlucky injuries as well this season which have kept him out.”
Keita joined the Reds in the summer of 2018 in a £54million deal but has failed to consistently hit the high standards he set at Red Bull Leipzig.
He has missed 16 games through injury this season.
