‘It’ll be in January’ – Alexander Isak to follow Van Dijk route to Liverpool

Alexander Isak may not get his move to Liverpool this window but would then be odds-on to follow in the footsteps of Virgil van Dijk in the next window.

Ongoing rumours linking Liverpool and Isak have been the headline of this transfer window and a move could go down to the wire with a matter of days to go.

However, amid defensive concerns in their first two matches, Liverpool have been told to prioritise signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace over Isak this summer.

The potential shift in focus away from the Swede suggests the Reds may wait to go back for the forward in the January window, as told exclusively to Football Insider by former Southampton striker Matt Le Tissier.

Alexander Isak to emanate Virgil van Dijk by pushing through a move in January if deal doesn’t happen now

This article contains exclusive comment from former Southampton and England striker Matt Le Tissier.

Having previously highlighted exclusively to Football insider that he felt Liverpool target Isak is not worth £150million, the ex-England forward has underlined how the 25-year-old may need to wait for the next window to bag his dream move.

Speaking exclusively to Football insider, Le Tissier said: “If it’s not in this window [Isak to Liverpool], then it’s highly likely that it’ll be in January, which is what happened when Virgil van Dijk was agitating to get a move away from Southampton.

“That’s how it transpired then. I can see the same thing happening again possibly.

“[It’s] all kicking off and [there’s] still a little bit of time left in this window.”

Alexander Isak staying does not mean the end of transfer activity as Newcastle enter race for Alexander Sorloth

Even though it looks increasingly likely the number 14 will be staying this summer, the Magpies are pushing forward to sign another striker after the departure of Callum Wilson on a free agent.

Newcastle have joined the race for Alexander Sorloth of Atletico Madrid as they look to put an end to their long list of striker rejections.

The Norwegian netted 24 times in 50 appearances for the Spanish outfit, having previously flopped at Palace as a youngster in the early days of his career.

Moreover, sources have told Football Insider that Newcastle are tipped to sign two forwards before the end of the transfer window.

Eddie Howe has also maintained long-term interest in both Nicolas Jackson and Yoane Wissa with little headway being made on constructing a deal with either parties.
