BBC journalist provides key update on Rangers managerial hunt after Murty boot
Rangers are still seeking to appoint former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard as their new manager after the sacking of Graeme Murty on Tuesday, according to a journalist.
BBC senior football reporter Chris McLaughlin has provided an update on the Gers’ hunt for a new boss via his personal Twitter account, disclosing that the Gers are ‘hopeful’ that they can convince the former Liverpool man to begin his managerial career with the Light Blues.
He stated: “Club still hopeful of convincing Steven Gerrard to take the job.”
With the sacking of Graeme Murty – which was announced on the Light Blues’ official website on Tuesday – the need to get a new boss in at Ibrox is paramount for the club’s board, to placate furious fans after a series of poor performances.
Only time will tell if Gerrard does take the job but Gers fans would like the deal to be concluded sooner rather than later.
Football Insider verdict
The comments from McLaughlin could send alarm bells ringing for Gers fans. ‘Hopeful of convincing’ does not sound very promising, and it sounds like Gerrard is undecided on taking the job and is wanting Rangers to show him why he should take the job, rather than the other way around. In a way it is understandable that Gerrard is being cautious, as the Gers do seem to be in a bit of turmoil, but the board will have to get an answer from the Liverpool icon very soon, as if he does not take the job they will have to move on to another candidate, and at this moment in time who knows who that could turn out to be.
In other Rangers news, Dave King must improve his offer to Gerrard after an English club joined the hunt to appoint the Liverpool icon.
