Rangers 22-year-old reveals how Ryan Giggs helped him land deal at Ibrox

Rangers defender Declan John has revealed how Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has helped him improve as a player.

Speaking in The Herald following on from his international call-up to the Wales squad under his hero, the Gers ace admitted that watching him as a child and trying to copy the winger have shaped the 22-year-old.

“I don’t know Ryan but obviously I’ve seen him play and I supported United as a kid.

“Watching him play, I’d try to copy him in certain ways, try to get the ball like him and go past three or four players at a time.

“That was something I wanted to do.”

The former Cardiff City ace has been a big hit amongst the Ibrox crowds for his marauding runs forward as well as his adventurous style of play.

Football Insider verdict:

It’s clear to see the influence the Manchester United great has on John and if he can continue to improve and get anywhere near to the dizzying heights the Welsh manager had during his career, he will go on to become one heck of a player. The 22-year-old improves week in and week out, and the guidance of Graeme Murty is clearly having a good effect on him. The left-back has become a regular since his move from the Championship was made permanent and has made 26 outings for the Light Blues with three goals – not bad for a defender. His ability in attack is likely to be what has earned his recall to the national setup.
