Howe could be ‘sacked’ by Newcastle next term after Kieran Maguire’s £200m reveal

Eddie Howe will be sacked by Newcastle United if he fails to achieve a top-10 finish next season, according to Paul Robinson.

The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 43-year-old will be “harshly judged” on his transfer business with the Magpies.

Finance expert Kieran Maguire has told Football Insider Newcastle will be able to spend £200million on new players over a rolling three-year period without breaching financial fair play regulations.

Football Insider understands (November 19th) the Magpies are finalising contract details with Michael Emenalo as they close in on appointing him as their director of football.

The Nigerian is set to work closely with Howe to assemble a squad capable of staying in the Premier League.

Robinson insisted the impending relegation fight will be a “good test” of Howe’s managerial talents.

“Howe will be harshly judged on his transfer business,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“He’s got to keep them in the Premier League this season. Then I strongly suspect that if he isn’t in that top ten next season, he will lose his job.

“They’ve given him this opportunity because he knows the league, he knows how to keep a team in this league. He did it with Bournemouth on a much lesser budget.

“It will be a really good test of his managerial credentials to see if he can build this Newcastle side. To get them up into that top half of the table.”

Newcastle failed to win this season and already sit five points from safety after 11 games.

Howe takes charge of his first Magpies game at home to Brentford tomorrow.
