‘Huge’ Mason Mount claim issued after Chelsea contract talks twist – pundit
Todd Boehly will not Mason Mount leave Chelsea and will hand him a bumper new contract, according to Danny Mills.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United and England defender claimed Chelsea will not have a “huge problem” with Mount as he enters the final two years of his current deal.
ESPN reported earlier this month (4 May) that the London club are keen to extend the 23-year-old’s contract and talks are expected as soon as possible.
In a statement released by the club last week (7 May), Chelsea confirmed terms have been agreed on a £4.25billion takeover led by Boehly.
And Mills has suggested a new deal for Mount will be one of the first items on his to-do list.
He told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “They will have probably started talking to him about this in December time.
“But with all the issues around the sanctions at the club, they haven’t been able to do that.
“I don’t think Chelsea will have a huge problem with this. Once the new owner gets his feet under the table, they will start looking at sorting things out to make sure this situation doesn’t happen.
“He’s buying the club for £4billion. He’s clearly a very astute businessman who knows what he’s doing. He’ll get in there and sort things out pretty quickly.

“Unless he’s intending to blow this £4billion and throw it away, which I very much doubt, to be honest, he’s going to want to make Chelsea successful so he can make money out of it.
“For Chelsea to be successful they have to have their best players. If I was a Chelsea fan I would not be too worried or concerned at all about this.”
