Hutton salutes David de Gea after what he’s heard at Man United

Alan Hutton has claimed David de Gea “took the pressure off” his Man United teammates by taking the blame for their loss to Brentford on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right back said the United players will know they weren’t good enough.

The Red Devils were beaten 4-0 by Brentford for their second defeat of the season.

As quoted by the Manchester Evening News (14 August), De Gea said he wanted to take responsibility for the goals.

The goalkeeper said he cost his team “two points”.

Hutton claimed the Spain international is not the only one to blame for the poor performance.

He knew he made a mistake and credit to him,” he told Football Insider.

He wanted to do the press after, he held his hands up but you can’t just blame him. Just in general, for Man United to get beaten in that way is really poor. You don’t expect it at all. I think everybody has to pull their weight.

The manager can only do so much, he tries to get his ideas across. As soon as you cross that white line it’s up to those players out there to go and deliver and none of them have in my opinion. They kind of look lost at times.

Fair play, he’s [De Gea] an experienced player, he’s held his hands up but out with that he’s maybe taken the pressure off a few of them. They’ll know when they look in the mirror that they’ve not been good enough.
