Graeme Murty: This key Rangers decision is out of my hands
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has admitted he isn’t worried about his future as Gers boss – despite not knowing if he will be at the club next season.
The Gers boss was handed the reins until the end of the season following Pedro Caixinha’s sacking but remains in the dark about the Light Blues’ plans for next season.
Murty admits the decision is out of his control but is confident that if the job he does is “good enough” then he’ll be rewarded.
“I don’t have to worry about my job, my position. It’s not about me. It’s about making sure we move forward and I believe we are moving forward,” Murty said, as quoted by BT Sport.
“The decision on whether I will be taking the next step won’t be for me to control.
“I’m comfortable with the situation. If the job I do is good enough, I’ll get a reward. If not, we’ll have to move on.”
Murty’s side are ten points behind bitter rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and face a Scottish Cup semi-final against the Hoops at Hampden next month.
The Gers return to action after the international break when they take on Motherwell at Fir Park on Saturday lunchtime.
Football Insider verdict:
While Murty may be comfortable with his position at the minute, the Gers need to make sure they are well prepared for next season and, hopefully, moves have started behind the scenes if Murty isn’t going to get the job long-term. The Gers board simply can’t wait until the last possible moment to make a decision on who is going to be manager otherwise they run the risk of repeating the shambolic start to this season. Murty has definitely moved the Gers forward after succeeding Caixinha but whether it is enough for the Gers board remains to be seen.
