‘I know they had targets in January’- Exclusive: Brown makes big West Brom transfer window claim

Michael Brown believes quality recruitment is needed to keep West Brom in the Premier League next season.

The former Leeds midfielder, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insisted the Baggies have some talented players at their disposal but warned “they will need help.”

A 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday was enough to book West Brom’s place in the top-flight as they pipped Brentford to the second automatic promotion spot.

Slaven Bilic’s men will be playing in England’s top tier for the first time in two seasons and Brown believes the transfer window will be “important”.

“It is important and I know they had targets in January that they never got which would have helped them over the line,” he told Football Insider.

“It’s about handling the situation, the pressure, the expectation and playing a style that you can.

“Recruitment is obviously going to be key for them, can they improve? They’ve got some good players, we already know that.

“Again, we talk about more help across the pitch but there’s ability there for sure, but they will need help.”

Following promotion, Slaven Bilic insisted his side will not take a similar transfer policy to Midlands rivals Aston Villa.

Dean Smith’s side survived on the last day after making wholesale changes to their squad, spending a good portion of their promotion prize money.

He told Gol.hr “We have to do something similar to Sheffield United, not like Aston Villa, and definitely not like Norwich who hasn’t even tried anything. We need to invest but in quality.”

In other West Brom news, the Baggies are closing in on four-year deal for attacking ace who dazzled in 19/20.
