Ian Taylor delivers no-holds-barred verdict after Aston Villa loss against Nottingham Forest
By Amir Mir
Ian Taylor has stated that Aston Villa “need to start keeping clean sheets” following their 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening.
Steve Bruce’s side suffered yet another loss away from home and dropped more valuable points in the Championship.
Villa are yet to win a game in all competitions in 2017 as they have lost five games since the turn of the year.
Their heavy defeat against Brentford in midweek was followed by another loss this time against their Midlands rivals Forest.
Britt Assombalonga cancelled out Jonathan Kodjia’s opener after a horrific error from Villa goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Then teenage striker Ben Brereton secured all three points in dramatic fashion as Forest claimed a valuable win in stoppage time.
After conceding more goals and suffering yet another defeat former Villa midfielder Taylor expressed his frustration towards Bruce’s side as posted on his personal Twitter account.
“Gutted,” said Taylor. “We had the better chances tonight. Two mistakes, two goals. We will score goals but need to start keeping clean sheets.”
Bruce’s side have conceded 11 goals in their last six games in all competitions, including shipping seven in their last three Championship matches.
In January, Villa purchased two senior defenders in right-back James Bree and left-back Neil Taylor.
Youngster Bree made his debut against Forest, while Taylor missed the game and will be looking to play his first game for the club against Ipswich next Saturday.
