Ian Taylor posts scathing Twitter verdict on Aston Villa players after Norwich loss
By Will Butcher
Ian Taylor has blasted the Aston Villa squad after what he claimed was the “bitter disappointment” of their 1-0 loss to Norwich on Tuesday night.
Steve Bruce lost just his second game as Villa boss in 10 games, as Portugal international Nelson Oliveira curled a wonderful effort from long-range past goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.
Posting on his personal Twitter account, Taylor lambasted his old side and said it was their “worst” performance since the arrival of Steve Bruce.
He also claimed that “major improvement is needed for Sunday” when the Midlands giants take on QPR at Loftus Road.
The loss to Alex Neil’s side leaves Villa in 13th place in the Championship table, six points adrift of the playoffs.
With the busy Christmas period looming, a win would have taken the relegated Premier League outfit to within just three points of the Championship’s top six.
Bruce has turned Villa’s fortunes around at Villa Park since his appointment back in October, after Roberto Di Matteo has won just one game in 12 league and cup encounters before his sacking.
Five wins in Bruce’s short tenure has seen Villa propel up the league, as talk over a fifth career promotion for the former Sunderland boss gathers momentum.
But the loss to Norwich will be a stark reminder that Bruce’s side are in for a fight if they want to gain an instant return to the Premier League.
During his nine-year stint at Villa Park, Taylor scored 43 goals in 296 games as well as picking up runners-up medals in both the FA Cup and the League Cup.
