Ian Wright delivers his verdict on Tottenham after Burnley win
By Amir Mir
Ian Wright has stated that Tottenham will only get “better” after they defeated Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs saw off a tough Sean Dyche team who took the lead after 21 minutes through Ashley Barnes.
But midfielder Dele Alli levelled the scores six minutes later when he converted Kyle Walker’s low cross, before Danny Rose hit the winner after the break.
However, the home side were lucky to walk away with all three points as Moussa Sissoko was only given a yellow card for a high challenge, before setting up his teammate minutes later for the winner.
The win means Mauricio Pochettino’s men remain unbeaten on home soil this term as they close the gap on the top four to just one point.
After the game former Arsenal striker Wright provided his verdict on Spurs as he applauded the manner in which they beat Burnley.
“What Spurs done you have to do,” Wright told 606 on BBC Radio 5 live. “They won the game and they found a way to win the game. That builds confidence and builds momentum.
“They will only get better because in games where teams are coming to White Hart Lane and making it very tough, they are getting that result and that will make the team even stronger in their belief. Spurs will get better.”
Pochettino’s side remain in fifth place in the Premier League table on 33 points from 17 games, one point behind the Gunners in fourth and ten points behind leaders Chelsea.
They could end up as high as second if they pick up wins and results go their way during the busy festive period.
The north London club have two tough away fixtures to contend with. First of all they travel to St Mary’s on Boxing Day to take on Southampton, before a trip to Watford in the new year.
