Ian Wright: This is how long Koeman has to turn things around at Everton

By Danny Wright

Ian Wright believes that Ronald Koeman will have to turn things around “pretty sharpish” after the international break is over to save his job at Everton.

The Toffees have won just two of their opening seven Premier League fixtures this season and slumped to a dire 1-0 loss at home against Burnley on Sunday to pile more pressure on the Goodison Park boss.

Everton had been handed a tough run of fixtures in their early part of the season which saw them lose against the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham, however with those games over, many expected Koeman to turn things around against Burnley at the weekend.

Former Arsenal striker Wright believes that Crystal Palace’s sacking of Frank de Boer after just four games this term shows that owners are no longer willing to take the risk and wait for a bad run to end before taking action.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is also starting to come under pressure at Anfield and Wright has suggested that the two Merseyside managers may see themselves on thin ice due to the amount of money that they spent in the summer.

“Neither Klopp nor especially Koeman can sit back and think they are totally safe either,” said Wright on the Sun website.

“What happened to Frank de Boer at Crystal Palace has changed the landscape.

“De Boer went after four Premier League games and, when you’ve spent the money the two   Merseyside managers have, it only ramps up the pressure even more.

“Of course there is still plenty of time for it to change — we’re only in the first week of October for heaven’s sake, so it’s not as though the season is beyond redemption.

“But unless they start turning it round pretty sharpish after the international break, there’s only so far that patience will stretch.”

Everton do not exactly have the best run of fixtures on the horizon after the players return to action following the international break.

They face Brighton at the AMEX on October 15 but after that there are clashes with Lyon, Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester all on the horizon.
