‘Best chance’ – Ian Wright urges Tottenham to make surprise swap v Manchester United
By Russell Edge
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has urged Tottenham to start Heung-min Son as Harry Kane’s replacement in their clash with Manchester United on Saturday.
The 24-year-old England striker has been ruled out of the showdown at Old Trafford with a thigh injury, which was picked up during the club’s 4-1 win against Liverpool last weekend.
While the natural selection to replace Kane would be fellow striker Fernando Llorente, who arrived from Swansea over the summer, Wright has said that Jose Mourinho’s defence would easily counter the Spaniard if he were to start on Saturday.
Instead he has said that they should surprise United and start South Korean international Son up top, insisting that he has been underplayed by Mauricio Pochettino.
Predicting a defeat for Spurs for the Sun on their website: “Spurs’ best chance of getting a result would be to start Son Heung-Min up top.
“I don’t think he’s underrated but he is perhaps underused. He’s quick, can use both feet, has a great eye for goal and crucially seems to have a great attitude.
“I think if he plays and stretches the United back four he can create some space for the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen to cause some damage.
“With Kane missing out, however, I’m tempted to back United to edge this one 2-1.”
While Spurs’s last league match was a convincing win over Liverpool, they were stunned by West Ham in the League Cup in midweek, allowing the Hammers to overturn a 2-0 lead for Pochettino’s men into a 3-2 defeat to end their hopes of picking up a fifth League Cup title.
Manchester United meanwhile qualified for the quarter finals with a 2-0 win over Swansea, which came after they suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield in the league.
In other Tottenham news, Alan Shearer has blasted the club for their defeat to the Hammers.
