Ibrox Exclusive: McNamara suggests Rangers player left wanting more as transfer offers rejected
EXCLUSIVE
Jackie McNamara suggests that Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham was looking for regular football after turning down offers to leave Ibrox this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Scotland international says that the 28-year-old will still in the Gers’ plans as part of the squad, having acted as backup to first-choice shot-stopper Allan McGregor since the veteran’s return to the club.
As revealed by Football Insider, Foderingham turned down a number of offers to remain with the Light Blues as he heads into the final year of his contract.
McNamara suggests that the keeper was not offered the playing time he would have liked elsewhere and that he will still be called upon by Gerrard when needed.
McNamara told Football Insider: “I think for ones like him, it probably wasn’t the right move. Obviously he’ll want to play.
“He’s still in their plans, if something happens to McGregor – he missed the start of the season and so he came in. I don’t think he’ll just sit there. I think the lad will be wanting to play and get the right playing time, it’s just one of those things.”
Foderingham has featured three times for the Gers this season, playing in both the Champions League qualifiers as well as the first Premiership game of the season with McGregor missing due to a fitness issue.
He has 141 appearances for the Light Blues under his belt, having signed at Ibrox back in 2015.
