‘I’d be worried’ – Hutton reacts to Newcastle sources’s ‘unbelievable’ Callum Wilson reveal
Newcastle United fans should be “worried” by Callum Wilson’s links away from the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers and Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton feared that the striker’s exit, along with several other reported departures, could pose a problem for the rest of the Magpies’ season.
As revealed by Football Insider (23 January), Eddie Howe’s side are ready to accept an offer for the England international this month if they receive a total package worth £20million.
Wilson has been the subject of vast interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid, Arsenal and Man United this month having scored eight goals across 20 appearances in all competitions.
Hutton felt Newcastle should not sanction his departure unless they can bring in an adequate replacement before the February 1 cut-off.
“If I’m a Newcastle supporter, I’d be worried,” he told Football Insider.
“You’re seeing all your top players looking likely to leave with a lot of bids coming in, it’s unbelievable.
“You’d think that there is an opportunity that Wilson could leave when you get into the money and everything.
“Callum Wilson has probably been a bit unfortunate this season with his injuries.
“But he’s still a major part of that team, even with having Alexander Isak up front, so you wouldn’t want to lose him.
“I would be worried as there could be two or three going.

“But can they bring two or three in?
“Their form hasn’t been good recently, so it’s a really difficult time for them.”
