‘If any manager looks at that…’ – Pundit drops ‘crazy’ Ryan Fraser claim after Newcastle United news
Ryan Fraser will make a permanent exit from Newcastle United in the summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former West Ham and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie claimed that it would be “crazy” if the Scotsman remained on the Magpies’ books after his loan spell at Southampton.
Fraser moved to the Saints in the summer and has had a productive spell at St Mary’s Stadium, notching seven goals and two assists in all competitions.
The 29-year-old was axed from the Newcastle first team in March and was forced to train with the under-21s as Eddie Howe claimed he was not committed enough to the club.
The boss also suggested that Fraser, who now has 18 months left on his current deal, had no future at the club.
McAvennie criticised Fraser’s behaviour while at Bournemouth, where he rejected a short-term contract extension to see out the rest of the coronavirus-stricken 2019-20 season, and claimed he is no longer good enough for the Magpies.
“Of course, he’ll leave in the summer, it’ll be crazy if he doesn’t,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s not good enough for Newcastle anymore.
“He didn’t want to play at Bournemouth because he wanted the move to Newcastle.
“If any manager looks at that, they wouldn’t want to play him.
“I wouldn’t want to go into the trenches with him!

“But, he’s a decent player in the Championship, but not again at Newcastle.
“His ship there has most definitely sailed.”
