‘INEOS give Christopher Vivell pay cut as new Man United deal signed’

Man United have agreed a new deal with Christopher Vivell but he has had to take pay cut at the club, according to a report from The Athletic.

Vivell joined the Red Devils back in the summer as a director of recruitment, having previously worked in executive roles with Chelsea and RB Leipzig.

That deal had initially been on an interim basis, although a clear update has now emerged on the German’s future at Old Trafford.

As part of that it seems as though Vivell will find himself subject to the same sort of financial decisions that are becoming prevalent at Man United at this moment in time.

Christopher Vivell deal details with Man United revealed

As per this latest update from The Athletic, Vivell has now agreed a permanent multi-year contract to remain in the behind-the-scenes set-up at the club.

The 38-year-old is set to oversee the global recruitment operation and scouting structure at Old Trafford, as well as emerging talent.

There have been a number of cuts to jobs and costs at the club recently, as Jim Ratcliffe attempts to rectify the financial situation at Man United.

As part of that, Vivell has apparently agreed a pay cut in order to agree to this new long-term contract with the club.

That comes with the department he is working in among those that is seeing reductions in its workforce amid those cuts made by Ratcliffe at Old Trafford.

It is noted that Vivell’s willingness to agree to that cut in order to remain there has underlined commitment to a role within the project at Man United.

Given the struggles the club are currently enduring on the pitch, manager Ruben Amorim will be among those hopeful that this new deal proves successful for the club.

Man United pay-cut had to be issued for agreement

Football Insider Verdict

Considering the way things are going at the club right now, a pay-cut for Vivell was surely always going to be inevitable for him to keep this role.

With the Red Devils looking to reduce finances in so many areas, it would have then made little sense for them to increase expenditure in one particular area here.

Man United have come under fire over their cost-cutting measures, so from an optics perspective it would not have been a good look to increase one man’s pay while laying off so many others.

The fact that Vivell is willing to stay at the club in spite of that is at least a positive in terms of underlining his desire to succeed at Old Trafford.
