Ings and Aston Villa teammate will be uncomfortable as footage emerges – Agbonlahor
Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins will not be comfortable defending set-pieces for Aston Villa, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted the players cannot be blamed for Wolves’ equaliser and winner in their 3-2 victory over Aston Villa at the weekend.
Aston Villa were comfortably leading 2-0 with 10 minutes left before three goals in closing stages meant Wolves picked up all three points.
Ings was caught out for the first goal as Daniel Podence was played in behind the Villa backline before providing the assist for Romain Saiss.
For the second goal, Watkins was back defending but could not intercept an Adama Traore cross that led to Conor Coady’s scrappy goal.
Bruno Lage’s side sealed all three points via a deflected free-kick from Ruben Neves.
Asked what it was like, as an attacker, to defend set-pieces, Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley: “It’s hard, you don’t like it, you’re nervous.
“I was always nervous when I had to come back and mark, you’re not used to it and you don’t know. Should I hold him? I don’t want to give away a penalty, You’re not as aggressive in the air and you’re not as good at marking.
“It’s always a worrying thing for attackers, that’s why a lot of them get put on the post or on the edge of the box.
“I still thought the equaliser was a lucky goal and I don’t blame anyone for that. On another day, Axel Tuanzebe clears it away but he misses it and it comes off Coady’s leg and into the goal.

“No blame on the players for me. Sometimes this happens. It happened a lot during my era where we used to give away late goals.
“If Dean Smith looks back at it, he might think he should have told his players to go back for a third goal and not stop and sit back. That’s what happens when you sit back, you’re asking for trouble.”
In other news, Aston Villa plan to accept an £18million bid for a 26-year-old.
