Insider: Liverpool set to appoint ‘outstanding candidate’ amid ‘huge’ claim
Jonathan Power was the “outstanding candidate” when Liverpool were recruiting their new club doctor.
That is the according to medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The Athletic reported earlier this week (27 November) that Power has been appointed as Liverpool’s club doctor.

It ends their four month search to fill the position but will not officially start in his new role until early 2023.
“The noise around the club is obviously a lot louder than it has been internally,” Dinnery told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“The club have obviously taken their time to choose a successor to Jim Moxon. Internally, it wasn’t a huge issue that needed to be addressed.
“The best course of action was bringing in someone they saw as a good fit, the right man for the job and I understand that he was the outstanding candidate for that role.
“In terms of maybe addressing some of that speculation outside of the club, it’s a good thing. It maybe changes the narrative a little bit.
“You just hope with the issues Liverpool had during that first half of the campaign with their injuries and setbacks to key personnel, they will be looking to get through the second half relatively injury-free.

“It remains to be seen what happens. There is a lot of luck involved as well as meticulous planning and careful preparation.
“There are a lot of games in the second half of the season. Given that we’ve had this tournament, I’m expecting maybe incident rates could go through the roof in March or April time.”
In other news, Liverpool are in talks to terminate a loan deal.
