Insider: Newcastle United overhaul underway as new deal agreed
The appointment of Danny Murphy as the new head physio at Newcastle United gives them the opportunity to overhaul their medical department.
That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.
Training Ground Guru reported last week (21 October) that Murphy had taken over from the long-serving Derek Wright.

Murphy’s last role was with Charlton Athletic and he has also worked with England Under-21s, West Ham and Crystal Palace.
“Derek Wright left at the back end of last season after a 38-year stint at the club, I think he worked under 32 interim and permanent managers while there,” Dinnery told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.
“He was a guy who was well respected, well liked and has a boatload of experience of the club and with the players.
“This is almost a changing of the guard at Newcastle. There are new owners with a new philosophy.
“Maybe this presents an opportunity for someone to come in and inject fresh ideas and a different perspective. They can take the club in a slightly different direction than we’ve seen in previous years.
“With Eddie Howe and the new owners, every aspect of the club will be looked at and changed. For everybody involved with Newcastle United, there is going to be this period of change. You need to ensure you are getting everything right.
“Derek has been a fantastic servant to the club but it comes at a good time for everybody.

“It’s a fresh start, an opportunity for somebody to come in and re-energise the place because there’s a big buzz around Newcastle at the moment.
“It’s an opportunity for Derek to step back and enjoy the journey as a fan and not be involved with the daily pressures of the Premier League, the scrutiny these days was probably something he could never have envisaged all those years ago.”
In other news, Newcastle United are lining up a club-record £60million contract offer.
