Insider: Tottenham ‘confident’ of agreeing Lloris deal after talks begin – it could be done in days

Tottenham are “confident” of agreeing a new contract with Hugo Lloris and there could be news on the deal next week.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Foot Mercato reported on Wednesday (29 December) that Nice want Lloris, 35, to join them on a free in the summer.

The report also claims the stopper is interested in returning to France.

However, Football Insider revealed earlier this month (11 December) that talks were underway between Spurs and Lloris over a new long-term deal.

Wenham claims there may be some official news on Lloris’ contract situation over the next seven days.

“I am slightly concerned that seemingly nothing has been agreed,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“One thing I will say is that there hasn’t been a mountain of speculation about him going elsewhere.

“There has been the odd thing but not anything I’m personally too worried about.

“The fact Tottenham haven’t said anything yet suggests to me that they are confident of getting him to sign.

“But obviously there are only a few days until he can sign a pre-contract with another club.

“Hopefully we hear something in the next week or so because he has been excellent for us in recent games.

“He was incredible against West Ham in the cup and kept us in the game at some points.”

Lloris is yet to miss a minute of Premier League action this season.

He has kept seven clean sheets with Tottenham sitting sixth in the Premier League.
