Insider: Tottenham fans can expect Lloris announcement ‘shortly’ after development
Tottenham fans can expect an announcement on Hugo Lloris’ new contract “shortly”.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
This site revealed on 11 December that Lloris, 35, has opened talks with Tottenham over a new deal as he looks to extend his 10-year spell at the club.
A Spurs source has told Football Insider that the Frenchman wants to commit to another contract that would take him into his late 30s.
As quoted by Alasdair Gold after the 1-0 win over Watford on New Year’s Day, Conte claimed he was “sure” Tottenham can “find a solution” to Lloris’ current situation.
On 2 January, Fabrizio Romano reported Tottenham are “confident” of agreeing a deal and Wenham is relieved by this update.
“Romano has delivered the news that we are confident of agreeing this deal,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It looks like it is going to only be one more year which is a shame as I hoped he would stay around for a bit longer.
“Two years would mean we avoid all of this again in January but I’m really pleased he’s staying.
“He is constantly performing well and there are no realistic options out there who are better than him.
“Hopefully this is done over the next few days. I expect an announcement shortly.”

Foot Mercato reported on Wednesday (29 December) that Nice want Lloris to join them on a free in the summer.
He is out of contract in the summer and is now free to agree a pre-contract with a foreign club.
In other news, Kieran Maguire has claimed Tottenham could knock Manchester giants off their perch after ‘£10million’ reveal.
