‘It’s the Worst Feeling in the World’ – Exclusive: Bent on Everton forward after Sky update
Carlo Ancelotti cannot rely on Cenk Tosun as a back-up striker at Everton due to a lack of motivation, according to Darren Bent.
The former Tottenham and England hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he has sympathy for the 29-year-old after a lack of game time and suggested the Turkish ace would not be able to give 100 per cent to the Toffees.
Tosun has made just one FA Cup start in his seven appearances this season, five of which have been in the Premier League.
Sky Sports report the likes of old side Besiktas and Russian outfit CSKA Moscow are keen on signing him this month.
He is still the only other recognised centre-forward behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the Goodison Park pecking order, although Richarlison has filled in up front.
Bent has questioned whether Ancelotti would be able to count on the Turkey international to perform to his full when he has struggled for game time so far.
“It’s been tough for him not playing games and I know when you’re not playing games, it’s horrible, it’s the worst feeling in the world,” Bent told Football Insider.
“When you sit there and you see people come and get more opportunities than you so I think for himself personally he just wants to go somewhere, play, get his form back, get his confidence back and just go from there.
How motivated would Cenk Tosun be knowing that he’s backup?
“It’s all well and good saying him being backup, which he would be more than adequate backup, but if he doesn’t want to be that backup and the real motivation is not there, then I’m not quite sure how you can use him as a backup because he won’t want to do it.”
Tosun has played a total of 58 times and scored 11 goals since joining from Besiktas for a reported £27million.
