James Maddison and Dom Solanke react to Djed Spence’s cheeky Champions League jibe

James Maddison and Dominic Solanke have reacted to a cheeky social media post made by Tottenham defender Djed Spence after Tottenham won the Europa League final.

The North Londoners’ 1-0 triumph over Manchester United in Bilbao on Wednesday, 21 May, means that Ange Postecoglou’s men will be competing in next season’s Champions League.

Tottenham’s Europa League success comes amid the backdrop of their woeful Premier League season which has put Postecoglou under pressure.

But the Australian answered his critics to a certain extent by delivering Spurs their first European trophy since 1984.

Maddison and Solanke react as Spence makes cheeky Instagram post

Before joining Tottenham during the summer of 2022, Spence helped Nottingham Forest win promotion to the Premier League when he was on loan with the East Midlands club from Middlesbrough.

The Englishman joined Forest on loan following a dispute regarding his attitude with then Boro boss Neil Warnock, who claimed that Spence’s future could be “either Premier League or non league.”

But his move to The City Ground resulted in success, as he helped his side win the Championship play-off final in 2022.

Spence celebrated his Wembley triumph by posing with a cigar and jokingly asked Warnock where his manners were via an X post.

After Spurs won the Europa League, the defender emulated that post by sharing a photo of himself on Instagram [23 May] with both a cigar and the European trophy, captioned: “Oh, where’s my manners! Welcome to (the) Champions League.”

Tottenham teammates Solanke and Maddison both liked the post.

Cristian Romero is expected to leave Tottenham

Tottenham’s newfound Champions League status could prove enough to keep Postecoglou in his job, while it could also help the North London outfit in their quest to recruit well during the summer transfer window, and potentially acquire the likes of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Even though Spurs are set to finish 17th, they have become a more attractive destination thanks to the fact that they will compete in next season’s Champions League.

Furthermore, Tottenham’s Europa League success has proven that the North Londoners are capable of performing well on the European stage.

But while Spurs look to sign fresh talent this summer, while also weighing up Postecoglou’s future, Cristian Romero is now set to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the end of the season, as exclusively revealed by Football Insider.

Romero played a key role as Postecoglou’s men defended admirably well against Man United on Wednesday, so they will be gutted to see him leave.
