Carragher delivers fascinating Kane v Lukaku verdict: This player has got the most potential
By Amir Mir
Jamie Carragher has stated that he would pick Tottenham striker Harry Kane over Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
Former Liverpool centre-back Carragher made the comments on Monday Night Football as he believes Kane has the “slight edge” over his attacking counterpart.
The duo have been in incredible form this season as their sides are vying for a European place, Spurs looking to secure a Champions League spot and the Toffees hoping to finish in the Europa League places.
Furthermore, they have both scored 17 Premier League goals this term, but Lukaku has taken four more matches to score those goals.
This was Carragher’s response when asked who he would pick between Kane and Luakaku.
“Kane,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “I just think at this moment he has got the slight edge on Lukaku, but what I would say is that Lukaku has got the potential to be better than Kane because he has got the physical attributes that Harry Kane hasn’t got. You think of that power, that pace, aerial ability.
“Without a doubt now Harry Kane but Lukaku has got more.”
Overall this season, Lukaku has found the back of the net on 18 occasions in 27 games, with his other goal outside of the league scored in the FA Cup.
By contrast, Kane has netted five more times outside of the league, twice in the Champions League and most recently hitting a hat-trick in the FA Cup against Fulham.
England international Kane finished top of the scoring charts in England’s top flight with 25 goals during the last campaign as he will be looking to achieve that same feat once again.
Spurs are set to meet the Toffees on March 5 at White Hart Lane in their next fixture as the duo go into this match having picked up three points during their last encounters.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side thrashed Stoke 4-0, thanks to a 23-minute hat-trick from Kane, while Lukaku’s goal helped Ronald Koeman’s men beat rock-bottom Sunderland.
In other Tottenham news, this attacking midfielder suffered an injury during a goal fest.
