Jamie Gittens ‘makes Chelsea transfer decision’ – ‘January deal possible’
Chelsea have sent scouts to watch Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens on multiple occasions this season as they weigh up a January offer.
This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the winger would be open to a return to England this month if the right offer arrives.
Football Insider revealed in October that Tottenham had been keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old’s situation, although there is a feeling he would cost a hefty fee.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have been plotting a move to sign a new winger after Mykhailo Mudryk was handed a provisional suspension by the FA after failing a drugs test.
Gittens is thought to have been on their radar for some time, having established himself as a regular for Dortmund last season.
The England under-21 international made the move to the German outfit from Man City in 2020 in search of better opportunities, following a similar path to current Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho.
Since then, he has become one of Europe most highly-anticipated young players and a number of elite sides have been eyeing a move to bring him back to England.
Jamie Gittens’ stance on Chelsea move revealed after new twist
So far this season, Gittens has scored 11 goals and provided five assists across 27 game in all competitions, impressing the watching Chelsea scouts.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that the winger is emerging as an option for the Blues in the closing stages of the window.
“Chelsea seem to have a thing about signing wingers, they’ve got them in barrel-loads,” he told Football Insider.
“But after this issue with Mudryk, it looks like they want to sign a new one.
“I watched England’s under-21s beat Luxembourg 7-0 at Bolton last year, and Madueke was brilliant.
“But one player who caught my eye was Gittens. I didn’t know of him at the time, I’ll admit, but he really impressed me with his speed and power on the left-hand side.
“Then I saw he’d left Man City to go to Dortmund, and he’s developed his game abroad.
“Now, I’m told Chelsea have had scouts watching him this season and he’s one of the names they’ve been looking to bring in.

“He’ll have to question what his role will be in the Chelsea side because of the options they’ve got, but a move back to England is something he’d be open to.
“The way I saw him play with Madueke for the under-21s, I think that move might suit him, so it wouldn’t surprise me if that happened in this window.”
