Jamie Gittens reacts to Noni Madueke ahead of replacing the Chelsea winger

Jamie Gittens could replace Noni Madueke at Chelsea next season, and he has reacted to the winger’s latest social media post amid the rumours.

The 20-year-old impressed for Borussia Dortmund last season, scoring eight goals and picking up three assists as Niko Kovac’s side secured Champions League football.

After completing his fourth season in the Bundesliga, the winger could be set for a move to England this summer.

However, despite trying to sign him ahead of the Club World Cup, Chelsea failed to get the Gittens deal over the line before last Tuesday’s (10 June) deadline, so will have to go back in for him when the window reopens.

Madueke’s Chelsea future in doubt

There have been rumours that Madueke could leave Chelsea this summer, and the West London side’s pursuit of Gittens has just stoked the fire.

The 23-year-old has been at Stamford Bridge since 2023 when he made the move from PSV, and has gradually improved every season.

Chelsea have already turned one winger away this summer, as Jadon Sancho was forced to return to Manchester United, with Maresca unwilling to make the loan deal permanent.

Amid the speculation, Madueke took to Instagram to share some photos of his preparations ahead of the start of the Club World Cup.

Despite the fact that Gittens may be replacing the winger next year, he liked the former PSV man’s post.

Chelsea could keep Madueke

Football Insider Verdict

Despite the rumours, Chelsea could still keep Madueke at the club next season, regardless of whether they are successful in their pursuit of Gittens.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claimed that the 23-year-old still has a role to play in Maresca’s plans.

Having now lost both Sancho and Mudryk from the squad that started the season, there is a belief that a new arrival will not spell the end for Madueke.

The England international has been far from world-class during his time at Stamford Bridge, but he is still young and has the potential to develop into quite the player.

Of course, if Chelsea got an attractive offer for Madueke they would likely take it, but if not, there is no reason why he can’t still bring something to Maresca’s side in the upcoming campaign.
