Janssen posts Twitter message after Tottenham win against Burnley
By Harry Sykes
Vincent Janssen has taken to Twitter to hail Tottenham’s landmark 2-0 win against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.
The Dutch striker was surprisingly recalled to the Spurs team as he was handed his first Premier League start in 2017.
He led the line impressively before becoming the third player in the starting XI to be withdrawn through injury when he was replaced by Son Heung-Min after 73 minutes.
Janssen did not add to the five goals he has scored for Tottenham since his move from AZ Alkmaar last summer but was integral to his team securing the win that keeps their title hopes alive.
“Three points, thanks for the support,” said the striker afterwards in an upbeat message to Spurs supporters on his personal Twitter account.
Janssen’s appearance on Saturday was his 32nd for Tottenham in what has been a frustrating debut season in which just one of his five goals have come from open play.
Eric Dier scored the opener for Spurs at Burnley, with Son adding the second just four minutes after coming on for Jansson.
Spurs simultaneously defeated Burnley at Turf Moor with a textbook away performance, while Chelsea succumbed to a 2-1 home loss to relegation-threatened Palace.
Intriguingly, the next fixtures on Wednesday of next week could end with Spurs just four points behind Chelsea at the top.
Antonio Conte’s side host fourth-placed Manchester City, while Spurs have the seemingly easier task of travelling to 17th-placed Swansea.
In other Tottenham news, the London giants have won the race to sign a 32-goal striker who has taken the league by storm.
