Jayden Danns medical issue: ‘Sunderland loanee heads back to Liverpool’

Sunderland new boy Jayden Danns will be heading back to Liverpool after complications arose during a medical on deadline day, reports Keith Downie.

Football Insider exclusively revealed Danns was signing a new contract with the Reds, before joining the Black Cats on loan until the end of the season.

Sunderland had managed to beat fellow Championship club, Blackburn, to the young striker’s signature.

However, it has now been revealed that an issue with the 19-year-old’s back had shown up in his medical.

Downie revealed on X that Sunderland have gone ahead with signing Danns, despite the issue, and the England U18 will now return to Merseyside for treatment and rehab, but will still be registered by the Black Cats this season.

Once Danns has recovered from his back issue, he will join up with his new club as they chase promotion to the Premier League.

Sunderland strengthen in January with a view to Championship promotion

Football Insider Verdict

The January transfer window was a busy one for Sunderland, the Black Cats made Wilson Isidor’s deal a permanent one, whilst also signing Danns, and Enzo Le Fee from Roma on loan.

Isidor, who missed two penalties in a 0-0 draw with fellow promotion rivals, Burnley (17 January), has been the Black Cats’ top scorer with 10 goals this season.

Manager, Regis Le Bris, clearly wanted an alternate striking option to Isidor, going in to the busy second-half of the season.

Youngster Chris Rigg is second in the scoring charts for Sunderland, with just four goals, and the hope will be that Danns can be a strong part of the supporting cast at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland now sit fourth in the Championship table on 58 points, just three points behind Sheffield United in second, as they hope to return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2016/17 season.
