Jeremie Frimpong backed to agree Man United deal after source’s reveal – expert

Frank McAvennie has claimed ex-Celtic star Jeremie Frimpong would be a “breath of fresh air” at Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic and West Ham striker is impressed with how well Frimpong is doing in Germany and believes he would fit in well at United.

On 25 February, sources told Football Insider that the Red Devils are plotting a summer move for the 22-year-old right-back.

Frimpong’s current contract at Bayer Leverkusen runs until June 2025 but is believed to be keen on joining an English giant playing Champions League football.

The right-back is valued at between £40-50million but there is a belief that United could agree a deal for £30-35m.

Erik ten Hag is keen to add another right-back to his squad amid uncertainty surround Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future as the player gives “serious thought” to leaving Old Trafford this summer.

Frimpong, who made his senior debut at Celtic, has made 29 appearances for Xabi Alonso’s die this season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in those outings.

McAvennie is in no doubt Frimpong would be a success at United.

“Could he play for Man United? Of course he could,” he told Football Insider.

Frimpong would be like a breath of fresh air if he comes in. He is like a kid in a sweet shop. He is so enthusiastic, so fun. He would be good for Man United.

Man United

I think he could play anywhere. Going to Germany and making it in a big club over there should not be taken lightly.

There is nothing wrong with his defending abilities and going forward, but he is tiny. Football is such a big game now.

In other news, according to sources, Man United are plotting to sign Benjamin Sesko with summer move already agreed.
