Jesse Lingard expected to be ‘first of a couple’ of signings for West Ham after source’s reveal – pundit

Paul Robinson has backed West Ham to sign Jesse Lingard on a free transfer this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested the 29-year-old would be the first of at least two signings for David Moyes’ side.

Lingard is available as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Man United on Thursday (30 June).

Man United

Football Insider sources revealed on 26 June that the Irons have made a lucrative offer to Lingard in a bid to sign him permanently.

The attacking midfielder is understood to be keen on a return to the London Stadium.

Lingard spent the second half of the 2020-21 season on loan with the club.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: “It is obviously somewhere where he felt happy.

“He was comfortable playing under David Moyes. He looked like a player with a new lease of life.

“At Man United he had a tough time last season. He couldn’t get the game time that he wanted.

“Moyes took his shackles off and played him higher up the field. He gave him freedom. He scored so many goals.

“In a short space of time he built up a great rapport with the squad, the staff and the fans. It just seemed the right fit. Jesse Lingard and West Ham at that time were a great fit.

West Ham

“It’s no surprise that they are frontrunners. I think it would be a good move for all parties.

“I think West Ham will strengthen around him as well. They will need to if they want to push onto the next level. There’s a lack of depth in that squad. I think Lingard will be the first of a couple.”
