Joe Gomez: Liverpool tipped to sign multiple ‘big’ stars after source’s £30m reveal

Liverpool should sell Joe Gomez this summer and spend the money on enhancing their squad.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Aston Villa’s interest in the defender.

An Aston Villa source told Football Insider on Monday (21 February) Steven Gerrard has made signing the defender his number one priority ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old made his first Premier League start in 468 days during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Norwich City on Saturday (19 February).

However, he will enter the final two years of his contract in the summer and Liverpool may be forced to accept a £30million offer.

Kenny insists Liverpool should let Gomez leave as the player will be looking for regular Premier League football.

“It’s a tough one for Liverpool, he’s still a young player,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“The thing is he’s only played 12 Premier League games across the last two seasons.

“It’s alright keeping him and having him as back up but does he not want to go out and play football?

“He will want a chance to break into the England squad so it’s not just about whether Liverpool want to keep him.

“They could get a good fee for him so that’s one side of it but as a player, I would want to be out there playing.

“I know he’s had injuries but 12 games in two years is not a good stat.

“If he wants to get back in that England squad he needs football and Liverpool should let him go.

“Then they can put that money back into the squad with a few big transfers.”

In other news, Liverpool could sign the next Mohamed Salah after an ‘exceptional’ update.
