John Stones reacts to Jeremy Doku message amid Man City exit rumours

John Stones has been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester City this summer but has still been keeping a close eye on his teammates.

Stones joined City from Everton in 2016 and has since made 277 appearances across all competitions, winning six Premier League titles and a Champions League among a host of other major honours.

The centre-back has also been an integral figure for England over the years, helping the Three Lions reach the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Uefa Nations League semi-finals, as well as back-to-back European Championship finals.

However, Stones has just one year left to run on his current contract and is now heavily linked with a summer exit, with fellow City legends Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne already departing for Burnley and Napoli, respectively.

John Stones reacts to Jeremy Doku post

Although his future remains unclear, Stones has been keeping watch over his teammates on social media this summer.

Most recently, the 31-year-old liked a post from City winger Jeremy Doku, who represents Belgium at international level but has Ghanaian heritage and has been back in the country visiting family.

“Home is more than a place — it’s the laughter of family, the energy in the air, the colours, the smiles in the streets, the food. Home, for me, is a feeling!” read Doku’s caption, with the post also getting a like from new Man City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.

“Ghana gives me all of that and more. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to spend time with my loved ones and the chance to see the beauty of this country with fresh eyes.”

Everton could be Stones’ best bet

Football Insider verdict

Football Insider revealed recently (14 July) that Pep Guardiola is ready to green light Stones’ exit from the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Former club Everton are understood to be one of the most interested suitors in the 83-time Three Lions international, with the Toffees in serious need of depth across various defensive positions.

Stones was David Moyes’ last signing during his previous tenure as Everton manager, so we know how much he admires the player.

And although the Toffees don’t have bags of money to spend, they do have an increased budget compared to recent summer markets.

Everton will also be aware of the cut-price deal Burnley were afforded when signing Kyle Walker, with Guardiola clearly keen to allow older players to leave this summer in an effort to inject new blood into his squad — regardless of the legendary status they hold at the Etihad Stadium.

Alongside Stones, goalkeepers Ederson and Stefan Ortega are also linked with a move away from City, who are pushing to bring James Trafford back to the club.
