Julen Lopetegui could quit Wolves within days after confirmed news – Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Julen Lopetegui could quit Wolves before the start of the new campaign as their summer fire sale continues.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Spaniard will want to avoid having relegation on his CV and could walk away if the situation isn’t resolved.

In an interview with journalist Guillem Balague (25 July), Lopetegui admitted Wolves have to sell more players in order to make their own additions this summer.

He claimed “plan A” and “plan B” for the club’s summer recruitment has failed amid a backdrop of Financial Fair Play concerns at Molineux.

As per Transfermarkt, Wolves have raised almost £90million by selling stars like Ruben Neves, Nathan Collins and Raul Jimenez this summer.

Meanwhile, the Midlands club have only added Matt Doherty to the squad which finished 13th last term.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I can see him walking away before the season starts if they don’t get their act together.

“The Premier League is getting tougher and tougher, and Wolves struggled last season.

“Just look at the 6-0 loss away at Brighton.

“If you don’t keep improving your squad, you’re going to get closer and closer to relegation. The Wolves squad has actually got worse.

“Podence is training on his own, they’ve lost Neves, Jimenez – they’ve got to wake up.

“The likes of Pedro Neto have struggled with injury – and they’re a couple of injuries away from being in real trouble.

“Lopetegui might want to avoid having a relegation on his CV, and walk away.

“The Premier League is not somewhere where you can struggle for money.”
