Jurrien Timber sends message after Liverpool deal agreed, Xavi Simons weighs in

Jurrien Timber and Xavi Simons congratulated Ryan Gravenberch after it was confirmed that he has signed a new Liverpool contract.

The Reds announced the agreement on Saturday, which will keep the midfielder tied down at Anfield until 2032.

The 23-year-old has been exceptional over the last two seasons, coming alive as Liverpool were crowned champions last season after initially joining from Bayern Munich in 2023.

Gravenberch has been one of the few standouts for Arne Slot’s team this season, too, amid what has been a disappointing second season for the manager.

Liverpool will target a back-up option for the 23-year-old this summer, with Wataru Endo expected to leave following an injury-hit season.

Jurrien Timber and Xavi Simons message Ryan Gravenberch

Gravenberch faced heavy criticism following Liverpool’s loss to Wolves on Tuesday, but he has undoubtedly become a fan favourite after the last two seasons.

The midfielder seems to be constantly available for Slot’s team, starting 37 of the 38 Premier League games last season as the Reds charged to the league title.

And despite having arguably the most difficult job on the pitch for Liverpool, the 23-year-old’s performance is consistently excellent.

Gravenberch has even added goals to his game this season, firing in four so far, along with six assists across all competitions.

And despite the disappointing showing Liverpool have produced in the Premier League, the Netherlands international will be key to remaining hopes in the FA Cup and the Champions League.

Slot’s side progressed past Wolves to the quarter-finals on Friday, and will play the first of two last-16 legs against Galatasaray on Tuesday.

After signing his new deal, Gravenberch took to Instagram and wrote: “Red yesterday. Red today. Red tomorrow.”

International teammates Timber and Simons responded to the posts with love hearts, with all three expected to go to the World Cup this summer.

What Gravenberch said after signing Liverpool contract

There had been some slight rumours of a potential Bayern Munich move to re-sign Gravenberch in the future, but those talks have been put to rest by his new contract.

“For the short term, [my aim is to] end the season as good as possible,” he told Liverpool after the confirmation.

“And for the long term: win many more trophies with Liverpool. I have a really nice relationship with [the fans]. Always when I do something good in the stadium I hear them singing my chant.

“I’m really grateful for the supporters because without them we would not be where we are now. In the future, we want to give them many more [trophies], so hopefully we can get that done.”
