Kalvin Phillips expected to now stay at Leeds United amid ‘surprise’ claim – pundit
Alan Hutton has suggested Kalvin Phillips could stay at Leeds United this summer without signing a new contract.
The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted a new long-term deal at Elland Road could scupper the 26-year-old’s chances of a big move down the line.
As revealed by Football Insider earlier this month (12 May), Phillips is considering leaving Leeds this summer despite having been in contract talks since September.

A recruitment source has since told this site (16 May) that Newcastle and Aston Villa are leading the hunt for his capture.
Discussions over a new deal have stalled at Elland Road, with his current terms expiring in 2024.
Hutton admitted he would be “surprised” if Phillips commits to a contract extension.
He admitted he expects the midfielder to run down his current deal instead.
Asked if he thought Phillips would sign a new deal, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I’d be surprised. Obviously, he’ll be on a good contract at this moment in time.
“He’s an England international and I think moving forward he is going to look to play at the highest level possible.
“So for him to sign a new four or five-year deal is only going to make that more difficult. The money is going to have to be through the roof to get him out.
“I’ve got a feeling that he’ll probably stay this season unless there’s a silly bid for him. Then he’ll maybe look to leave next season.
“For him to sign a new five-year deal or whatever at this moment in time, it would just be impossible for him to go anywhere.”

Phillips has played 234 times for Leeds since breaking through the youth ranks.
He signed his current contract in 2019.
