Kalvin Phillips: Leeds United could be forced into £60m deal after source’s update – pundit

Leeds United could sell Kalvin Phillips in order to raise funds to “strengthen” their “weak” squad this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 26-year-old could depart if the “right money comes in”.

According to The Athletic (9 March), Phillips is a target for Aston Villa ahead of the summer window, with the Midlands club’s coaching staff and recruitment team keen to make a move for the Leeds United star.

Football Insider revealed on the same day that the England international has been told by some of the biggest agents in the game they have the connections to seal him a move to a Champions League giant.

A Leeds United source has told Football Insider that the club value Phillips at over £60million.

Campbell claimed the midfielder would raise a “big-money fee” which the Elland Road club could reinvest this summer.

“Phillips will be reluctant to leave Leeds, of course he will,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“But if the right money comes in for the club and for the player, I’m sure they’ll look at it. They’ve got to strengthen that squad.

“If they do stay up, this season has left its calling card. And they will have to bring some real quality in because they’ve massively struggled this season.

“Sometimes the only way you can do that is by selling a couple of players. It just goes to show, they’ve had a few injuries and they’ve just been too weak at this level.

“Phillips is someone Leeds could look to in order to raise that big-money fee, 100%.”
