Kane has just taken public swipe at Levy over Tottenham transfer saga – pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Harry Kane has taken a swipe at Daniel Levy with his comments about staying at Tottenham this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker suggested the England hitman felt the Spurs chairman had not lived up to his end of a widely reported gentleman’s agreement.

Speaking to talkSPORT (31st August), Kane insisted his reputation had not been tarnished by the transfer saga and that his “conscience is clear”.

As revealed by Football Insider, Kane was “hell bent” on leaving Spurs, with Manchester City among his suitors.

However, he remained in north London past Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Whelan suggested the striker’s comments were a subtle dig at Levy not sticking to his end of the bargain.

“I don’t feel he has to make anything up to the Spurs fans really,” Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“He’s basically saying that his conscience is clear because he stuck to his agreement. He is basically saying that Daniel Levy didn’t.

“We know what Harry Kane is. He’s a professional.

“It wouldn’t have been his first option to leave Tottenham if they were still fighting for Champions League places. That’s the big issue.

“He wants to win medals and he wants them to be successful. They’ve got a great history in competitions, but it’s not happened for them.”

Tottenham

Kane has played three times for Spurs so far this season, with two goals under his belt.

He also netted his 38th goal for England in Thursday’s 4-0 win over Hungary.
