Keith Wyness: Sean Dyche doing everything to keep one Everton player

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Sean Dyche’s priority will be keeping hold of star defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – revealed any potential player sales will be dictated by how the Toffees handle their profit and sustainability (PSR) situation.

Football Insider revealed on 21 May that Everton will need to sell at least one of their “big” stars before they submit their accounts at the end of this month to help balance the books.

Branthwaite, 21, has received plenty of interest over the past few months after impressing in his breakout season at Goodison Park.

Football Insider revealed on 27 May the Toffees are trying to convince the English centre-back to remain at the club for another campaign.

Wyness believes it’s important Everton receive full value for any players potentially leaving the club after admitting it’s likely to be a “buyers’ market” this summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Dyche would like to keep the sales to as few as possible.

“He would obviously love to keep hold of Branthwaite. If Calvert-Lewin is to go, I think there would be another replacement coming in.

“It’s all about maintaining Premier League status. I don’t think Dyche would like to see too much upset.

“But I have to underline that this will be dictated by how we handle any threat of a PSR charge and who we have to sell.

“In a buyers’ market, we have to be sure we get value for those players and it’s going to be very tough this summer.

“We’ll see what sort of upset the squad will have, but it’s all going to be played out in the next few weeks.”
