Keith Wyness sets the record straight on new Everton stadium ‘rumour’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted the club’s new stadium will not host a Champions League final after online “rumours”.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed a Europa League final could be a more realistic aspiration and could bring in millions in revenue.
Rumours which originated on social media have claimed Everton’s new Bramley Moore Dock stadium, which is set to open next year, is in contention to host the 2027 Champions League final.
Milan’s San Siro was supposed to host the showpiece fixture but will be replaced amid fears about potential construction on the site.

The city of Liverpool has never hosted a European final, while Wembley Stadium hosted the Champions League final earlier this year – and Cardiff’s Millenium Stadium hosted the game in 2017.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The rumours are misplaced.
“I’m afraid to prick the bubble on this one, but I don’t think there’s been a stadium under 70,000 in capacity to host the final for quite some time.
“What may happen is Everton being in the running for a Europa League final, that would make more sense to me.

“But it’s not a big enough stadium to host the Champions League final, unfortunately.
“The Europa League final would bring a very healthy stadium fee, worth around £2million for one night – which would be a helpful number.”
